3 Summer Car Care Tips

It’s important to know how to take care of your car in the Summer months (especially in sunny Florida). But don't worry. We put together a quick Summer care guide, so you don’t have to stress. Check out the following 3 Summer Car Care Tips.

1. Coolant System

Cooling systems prevent the engine from overheating and they work harder during the hot temperatures of the summer months. The most noticeable symptoms of a sick cooling system are leaks, smell of antifreeze and repeatedly needing to add coolant. As a rule of thumb, the coolant should be changed at least once a year and keep a 50:50 mixture of coolant and distilled water. In addition, it is important to keep an eye on the hoses and connection points for potential leaks or damage. Finally, please be careful and never open a hot radiator cap and only inspect the engine when it is cold.

2. Tire Pressure

Checking the pressure of your tires is important for safety, gas mileage and the life of your tires.  Tires in good condition show no cracks, and deep treads free of nails and stones. Hot temperatures increase the air pressure of the tires and the risk of puncture, so try to check the pressure when they are cold. Most of the times, the correct pressure information of your tires is located inside the fuel door or the door jamb of the driver's door. Keep in mind that new cars with tire pressure monitoring systems may not alert you of changes until the tire is considerably deflated.

3. Battery

Hot temperatures affect the battery as well due to fluid evaporation. Although all batteries have to be replaced eventually, quick maintenance tips can make them last longer. For example, keep the top of the battery clean and wipe off any accumulated corrosion. Also, make sure all interior and exterior lights are off before you exit the vehicle to avoid drain the battery. Lastly, turn off the radio and don’t charge your phone when the engine is not running.

We hope you found these tips useful. It’s hot out there, so make sure you keep yourself hydrated. Oh, and don’t forget to give us a call if you want your car to look great. Contact us at (561) 320-7656 or email us info@solosteam.com. We look forward to seeing you!
